وضع مؤلف هذا الكتاب نصب عينيه أن أن يكون متمشيا مع تطور التربية ، ووضعه ليسد به حاجة ماسة إلى مثله في الوقت الحاضر؛ ولم يقتصر فيه على ما هو قائم مألوف، كما لم يقتصره على الجديد الذي لم يختمر بعد ، فالتربية ليست قواعد علمية جافة تتناول تماثيل نسميهم تلاميذ، وإنما هي الحياة نفسها؛ فهي تتناول كائنات حية نامية لها شخصياتها التي يجب أن تحترم ويعمل على ترقيتها ترقية صحيحة حسب نواميس الترقي الطبيعية: نفسية كانت أو فيزيقية، والمدرس الفاهم عمله يراعي أحوال تلاميذه الحاضرة من الوجهات المختلفة كما يراعي ماضيهم وينظر إلى ما يمكن أن يكونه كل منهم في المستقبل، فالتربية تعمل على تكوين رجال المستقبل ونسائه من أطفال الحاضر – فنظرها يجب أن يكون بعيدا. وتناول الكثير من نظريات التربية الحديثة التي ينتظر أن يكون لها الأثر الأكبر في المستقبل، سواء من حيث النظام والإدارة أو من حيث التدريس؛ كما أنه بالطبع لم يغفل فيه النظريات القائمة فعلا.
