تأتي هذه الدراسة لتقدم صورة وثائقة عن تطور الأحداث في العلاقة بين الباب العالي وإمارة (أبو عريش) والسواحل اليمنية، حيث تمّ الاعتماد على الوثائق والتقارير العثمانية التي حصل عليها المؤلف من أرشيف رئاسة الوزراء في استانبول. وهو تقدم معلومات شاملة وشبه كاملة عن العلاقة بين الباب العالي والشريف الحسين بن علي بن حيدر خلال الفترة من 1259هـ/1843م، وهو التاريخ الذي صدر فيه الفرمان السلطاني بتعيين الشريف والياً في إمارة (أبو عريش) وتابعاً للسيادة العثمانية، وحتى 1264هـ/1847م، وهو التاريخ الذي صدر فيه آخر فرمان سلطاني بثبت الشريف في مركزه ومنحه رتبة (أمير الأمراء).
