يتناول الكتاب دور الشيخ محمد الجيلاني السباعي الحسني المغربي في مقاومة الغزو الفرنسي لمصر (1798-1801م) ويسلط الكاتب الضوء على الاوضاع السياسية والاقتصادية والاجتماعية والدينية في هذه الفترة في كل من مصر والحجاز والدور الفاعل الذي كان يلعبه المغاربة في مصر كذلك يتناول الكاتب احداث مقاومة ما يسمى بالحملة الفرنسية في صعيد مصر وابطالها المجهولين ودور الشيخ الجيلاني الكبير في هذه المقاومة و اهل الصعيد والقبائل العربية والقادمين من الحجاز بجانب المماليك القوي السياسية الفاعلة في مصر في ذلك الوقت
