ولقد حظيت الموصل، بشرف احتضان مجاميع كبيرة من هذه العشائر يعود استقرار بعضها إلى فترة ما قبل ظهور الإسلام، في حين يعود وجود بعضها الآخر إلى أيام الفتوحات العربية الإسلامية. وفي القرنين السابع والثامن عشر الميلاديين شهدت الموصل تدفق الهجرات البشرية التي خرجت من شبة الجزيرة العربية باتجاه سوريا والعراق وذلك لأسباب يتعلق بعضها بالجفاف الذي تعرضت له الجزيرة العربية، وبعضها الآخر لعوامل تتصل برفض بعض هذه العشائر الخضوع لسلطة الحكم الجديدة هناك، ومن العشائر التي وفدت إلى الموصل (عنزة).
