نواحي البطرخانة حكايات يرويها لنا مراهق قبطي يعيش في صعيد مصر والراوي قريب من الشخصيات وجزء من الأحداث وشاهد على الظواهر الاجتماعية المروية، يقع العمل بين قالبي الرواية والمتتالية القصصية، حكايات متصلة منفصلة في أجواء واحدة، حكاياته كلها تضيء وتفسر بعضها على نحو متبادل، وذلك بمعالجتها لعالم واحد ومنطقة جغرافية واحدة ولموضوع واحد ولها وعاء واحد يغطي كل الحكايات وهو عالم الأقباط الغامض في منطقة ما بصعيد مصر، علاقتهم بأنفسهم وعلاقتهم بالآخرين، ونظرتهم للكون ولأحداث العنف الطائفي، ولما يقال عنهم وما يقولوه هم عن الآخرين، ونواحي البطرخانة مكان رمزي، لا يوجد مكان في مصر مكان اسمه نواحي البطرخانة.
وهنا نقرأ عن وجوه قبطية عديدة، ثرية وحقيقية، هنا الأقباط باعتبارهم أبطال القصة وأصحابها، بعيدًا على الكلاشيهات؛ الكلاشيه الأول : القبطي في دور السنيد وصديق البطل الوفي الذي لا يخطئ، والكلاشيه الآخر: هو الكتابة عن الأقباط باصطناع مفتعل غير حقيقي، اصطناع اللهجة والمصطلحات، اللغة والثقافة، التي يتم من خلالها تجسيد الأقباط من الخارج بشكل مثير للسخرية في الأدب والدراما، هنا في نواحي البطرخانة ستجد الأقباط الأشرار والطيبين، المتسامحين والمتعصبين، المستنيريين والرجعيين، الكاذبين والصادقين، الزناه والطاهرين، في نواحي البطرخانة نجد الأقباط في شكل واقعي وحقيقي لا هو ملائكي كما تفعل الدراما والأدب نتيجة شعور مثير للغثيان بالشفقة على الأقباط، ولا هو شيطاني كما تتصوره التخيلات والخرافات الشعبية المتعصبة عن الأقباط. كما نجد أيضًا في نواحي البطرخانة، بعض قضايا الأقباط الواقعية والشهيرة والتي حدثت وقرأنا عنها في الجرائد وعلى السوشيال ميديا، ولكن بعد أن حررها المؤلف من شخصياتها الحقيقية وزمانها ومكانها ووضعتها في محيط نواحي البطرخانة بشخصياته هو وبنظرة جديدة لتلك القضايا.
