يهدف هذا البحث إلى إعطاء القارئ صورة عامة عن ثورة الزّنج والبيئة الّتي حضنتها وأسبابها، وإعطاء نبذة عن علي بن محمّد -صاحب الزّنج-، وسيكون بحثا مختصرًا شاملًا على أهم ما يجب معرفته حول هذه الثورة؛ فيستضمن البحث الحالة السياسيّة والاجتماعيّة والاقتصادية قبل الثورة بقليل؛ لِما لتلك الأحوال من آثار وأسباب، وثم معرفة من هو صاحب الزّنج ودوافعه، ثم الحديث عن بداية الثّورة، و بعدها تناول أبرز المواقف والأحداث في الثورة، ثم الحديث عن نهايتها، وبعدها إعطاء لمحة أدبية عن أثر الثورة وانعكاسها على الأدب.
