هذه المجموعة من التأملات كانت موضوع صلاة وحياة قبل أن تكون موضوع كتاب.
إنها تؤلف في الحقيقة جزءاً من حياة عاشها فريق من المجاهدين والمجاهدين والمجاهدات من أبناء المسيح، جزءاً من حياة يوماً بعد يوم رفعوها إلى الله - كالأيادي الضارعة - قرباناً ذاتياً.
ضممنا هذه المجموعة في غلاف الحرف والكلمة لكي نتمكن، بواسطة الحرف والكلمة، من أن نوصل جوهرها إلى الآخرين، فنساعدهم هكذا على سكب حياتهم في صلاتهم وعلى إشراق صلاتهم في حياتهم: إن الأحداث والمواقف المذكورة في هذه الصفحات مقطوفة كلها من الواقع اليومي الذي عاشه هؤلاء المجاهدون والمجاهدات.
إن "كتاب الأيادي الضارعة" بعيد بلا شكّ عن "كتب الصلاة" بمعناها المألوف.
إنه يجمع نوعاً من التأملات، الحياة بالذات أوجدتها فنبعت من صميمها، إنها تهدف إلى مساعدة المؤمنين على إكتشاف مصادر الغنى الروحيّ العميق الذي يتولّد من الإتصال المباشر بالله تعالى من خلال أحداث الوجود اليومية.
تهدف أيضاً إلى تقريبنا من الصلاة الطقسية الكبرى والنصوص البيعية المتنوعة، كما وضعها المسيح، ومن بعده الكنيسة، على شفاه المسيحيين.
