مؤلف هذه الرحلة شاب شغوف بالترحال، هو عبد القادر آل أبي السعود، من أسرة مقدسية عريقة، نبه منها العلماء والأدباء والشعراء، وكان لها فيها منشآت ثقافية وروحية مهمة.
غاد رحالتنا نابلس، حيث كان يقيم، إلى استانبول سنة 1257هـ / 1842هـ، فقصد أولاً الرَّملة، وسار عبر وادي عزون إلى جُلجُولية، ومنها إلى يافا، ومن هناك ركب البحر إلى أرسُوف ومنها إلى بيروت، ومنها ركب سفينة بخارية إلى أحد موانئ قبرص الجنوبية، ومنه إلى ميناء (العلائية) على الساحل الجنوبي للأناضول، ومنها إلى (أنطاليا) ومن هناك توجه براً، إلى كوتاهية، ومنها إلى يني شهر، فأزنيق، وتقدم، ونحو بحر مرمرة، حيث اتجه إلى أسكدار، وبعدها انطلق في استانبول يزور معالمها من الجوامع والقصور والأسواق والخانات، فاستغرقت الرحلة كلها شهرين كاملين.
وصف المؤلف المدن والقرى التي كان يمر بها وصفاً يدل على قوة ملاحظة، متناولاً مساجدها ومنشآتها العامة من الأضرحة والمقامات، والجسور والقناطر، والخانات، وسرايات الحكم، وبعض مظاهر حياتها الإجتماعية.
والرحلة بعد هذا تقدم تعبر عن روح عصرها تماماً، فهي تتضمن ألفاظاً من حضارة البلاد التي جرت فيها، من ملبوس ومأكول وسفن وزوارق وعادات إجتماعية وغير ذلك.
