بلغة محمّلة بالإشارات يدخل سومر شحادة في عمق الجانب النفسي والإنساني لعائلتين تعيشان عنف الحرب، وشابّين يحاولان إكتشاف الشغف والحب في حياتَيْهما.
فنرى من جهة تساؤلات حول التضحية وما تتركه من إنكسارات، ومن جهة أخرى شغف الحياة والحب الذي يسمح تلك الإنكسارات.
"منذ أن رآها صارت بالنسبة له ستاراً ينظر عبره إلى الأشياء والأفكار وإلى نفسه، كانت مستحيلة وممكنة في آن واحد، سيمضي إلى التراب ولما يزال في درب أنوثتها الكثير لتمشيه من دون رفقته، سيتاح لها محو ذكراه عبر ذكريات جديدة، هذا ما يحصل عبر الأزمنة، يمضي المحبّون وتتبعهم آثارهم، إما تغيب في آثار الآخرين، أو تتلاشى عبر أزمنة الوحدة والهجران".
"بينما تهيم روح والدتي بين اللاذقية وحلب، لمحتُ تلك الروح التي تلبّسها الهجران طوال حياتها، لمحتْ والدي يحدّثها: ليلاً فتحوا الزنازين، طلبوا منّا أن نرفع قمصاننا ونغطي رؤوسنا، جمعونا إلى جنزير واحدٍ، راح أحدهم يجرنا من المقدمة وآخر يركلنا من الخلف...
جمعونا في ساعة متأخّرة في باحة السجن، سمعنا نباح كلاب يأتي من الخارج، سمعتُ صيحات بعيدة تهتف للحرية، رأيت ساحات تحتشد بالناس قبل أن تقطر الدماء منها، ورأيت عبر سيل الدماء زماناً موحشاً".
