يتناول هذا الكتاب موضوع التحليل العاملي الإستكشافي Analysis Exploratory Factor الذي أصبح شائع الإستعمال، وعادة ما يرافق تواتر استخدام التحليل العاملي الإستكشافي سوء توظيفه واستعماله. ولقد عمل المؤلف على توضيح كثير من الجوانب العملية لهذه الطريقة حتى يتسنى استعماله استعمالاً رشيداً وسليماً.
كما يتناول الكتاب موضوعاً آخر عرف إقبالاً متزايداً عليه في السنوات الأخيرة، وهو التحليل العاملي التوكيدي الذي يعنى باختبار النماذج النظرية العاملية للتثبيت من مدى مطابقتها للبيانات.
والكتاب –إذ يخاطب الطلاب ولا سيما طلاب الدراسات العليا، والدراسين، والأخصائيين، والممارسين، والباحثين، والأساتذة –يكتسي أهمية كبرى لعدة أسباب، لعل أهمها: أولاً: افتقار المكتبة العربية لكتاب يعالج التحليل العاملي بنوعيه الإستكشافي والتوكيدي. ثانياً: أصبحت البحوث النفسية الحديثة وأيضاً البحوث في المجالات المعرفية الأخرى توظف بكثرة التحليل العاملي التوكيدي في إطار ما يدعى بالنمذجة بالمعادلات البنائية Structural Equation Modeling، وذلك لإختبار صحة النماذج العاملية المختلفة، واختبار صحة الفروض المركبة ذات العلاقة بينية المفاهيم المستعملة. ثالثاً: يستعمل التحليل العاملي الإستكشافي، والتحليل العاملي التوكيدي في تقدير الخصائص السيكومترية. رابعاً: وأخيراً يوظف التحليل العاملي الإستكشافي والتوكيدي كإستراتيجية لتحليل البيانات التي تندرج تحت أسرة أساليب التحليل الإحصائي المتعدد المتغيرات Multivariate analysis.
