كثيرة هي الدراسات حول النهضة ومرحلتها، ولا سيما تلك التي بدأت تصدر منذ تسعينيات القرن العشرين، وغالبها تركز على الأفكار والشخصيات، معتبرة تقدم وتراجع هذه الأفكار مؤشرات على تقدم وتراجع النهضة، أو المجتمع ككل، أما محاولتنا هذه، فهي تسير في اتجاه آخر؛ إذ تحاول، من ناحية أولى، وعن طريق المشروع التوثيقي "قضايا وحوارات النهضة العربية" تقديم تكثيف تاريخي لهذه المرحلة، كما حدثت، وبلغتها وقضاياها وحواراتها وتعدد وجهات نظرها، ومن الناحية الثانية، تحاول عن طريق هذه الدراسة التركيية التحليلية، للمشروع التوثيقي، وللعصر وقضاياه ومؤسساته، تقديم تصور ديناميكي لآلية النهضة ومسارها، كحركة تغير اجتماعي-تاريخي شاملة، تنتج مؤسسات وتنظيمات وأشكال اطصفاف واندماجات وتكوينات ما تزال تتكون، وقد تكون هذه الطريقة في تقديم النهضة، أو هذه الرؤية لها، أكثر دلالة وتأثيراً من مجرد النظر إلى أفكار قد تتقدم وقد تتراجع، قد يتبناها أصحابها اليوم، وقد يتراجعون عنها غداً، بينما يتابع هذه الأفكار آخرون. فحركة وديناميكية التغير الاجتماعي-التاريخي، أقوى وأشمل من إرادات الأفراد، بل ومن أفكارهم الواعية، وتلك ربما تكون طريقة التاريخ في مكره.
بهذه الرؤية، والتي وخلاصتها أن النهضة العربية هي عملية تغير مؤسساتي ثقافي تاريخي شامل، وليست مجرد أفكار فردية يسهل الرجوع عنها، حاولنا تقديم هذه النظرة التركيبية التحليلية لمرحلة النهضة العربية وعصرها، ومؤسساتها، آملين أن نكون قد قدمنا جديداً في الحوار الدائر حول هذا الموضوع الذي عليه قد يتوقف المستقبل العربي.
