في هذا الكتاب محاولة لتسجيل محطات متعددة في حياة أهل العقل، تلك القرى المتناثرة في شمال هضبة نجد، يسجلها محمد القشعمي خشية أن يكون الزمن قد تجاوزها، وأن تكون الرمال قد طمرتها. وعلّ الجيل الجديد أن يطلع على جوانب من الحياة الاجتماعية لفئة عاشت ردحاً من الزمن في جزء من المملكة ظل معزولاً داخل رمال الثويرات.
هي ليست ذاكرة متعمقة، كما أنها ليست سرداً وتوثيقاً لمرحلة تاريخية بكل أحداثها وتحولاتها، بل هي أقرب ما تكون إلى الانطباعية العفوية لمواقف عاشها وشاهدها الفتى في أيام طفولته وفي فترة شبابه قبل أكثر من نصف قرن.
