إن الشيء الهام في هذا الكتاب والذي يكشف عنه مؤلفه ببراعة، هو تصميم طرق لحل بعض المشكلات العلمية العالقة، عن طريق النظر الى ماذا يحدث في الدماغ على صعيد الجزئيات الكيميائية وما هي المواد الكيميائية التي تؤثر على تعلم الدماغ، وكذلك النظر الى كيفية مساهمة بعض الأعمال والسلوكيات في تبلور مواد كيميائية تؤثر في عمل الدماغ على المدى البعيد أو القريب والعكس صحيح.
وانطلاقاً مما سبق يوزع المؤلف كتابه على خمسة فصول، يوضح في الفصول الثلاثة الأولى كيفية عمل الدماغ، ويطرح مشكلة التعليم وتشخيصها في الفصلين الرابع والخامس، ويتناول بعض استراتيجيات الحل في الفصلين الأخيرين وذلك بناء على الابحاث المتعلقة بالدماغ والتربية وعلم النفس ذات العلاقة.
سوف تستنتج بعد قراءتك لهذا الكتاب أنه من بعض الاشياء المنشود تغييرها في التعليم هو أن نكوِّن شخصاً قادراً على تعليم نفسه بنفسه. وهذا موافق لما ذكره العالم التربوي "بلوم" حيث يتهم المعلمين بأنهم يستغرقون معظم وقتهم بالتحكم في طلابهم وتقييمهم بدلاً من مساعدتهم ليكونوا مستقلين في التعليم، وفي فهم أنفسهم وشخصياتهم، وتطوير الطريقة المثلى للتعلم لكل منهم.. وعلى هذا يكون الهدف المعلن لهذا الكتاب بالإضافة الى المعرفة إيجاد البنية التحتية الدماغية القادرة على تحمل الكثير من العمليات العقلية العليا وخلق الكثير من المنتجات الإبداعية...
