في هذا الكتاب يستقرئ المؤلف أدب النخل، وقد إجتزا بالنخل من عامة الشجر اقتفاءً بالمصري الذي رسم النخل ب" أشرف الشجر المقتنى"، وفي رواية "سعيد الشجر". ثم واصل المؤلف المسيرة، فكان فصل في الكتاب سماه بـ"أدب النخل والثمر" في المثل القديم ثم قام ببسط معجم النخل، معرجاً على ما كان لبعض المغاربة من هذا في رسالة بدر الين القرافي المالكي التي وسمها بـ"توالي المنح في أسماء ثمار النخل ورتبة الملح" مرفقاً ذلك بدراسة لهذه الرسالة وما كان منها هذا ولم يخل هذا المجموع من شيء في "النبات" فكان للمؤلف بسط رسالة للمرتضى الحسيني الزبيدي صاحب "تاج الروس" المسماة بـ"هدية الأخوان في شجرة الدخان، ليأتي من ثم إلى فصل جعله ملحقاً وسماه بـ"خصوصية الحيوان والنبات في الأدب القديم" باسطاً في هذا الفصل فوائد لغوية تاريخية أفادها من الحديث الشريف وغيره مختتماً بما ورد من "النبات والشجر والحيوان" في لغة التنزيل العزيز.
