لا أظن أن الأستاذ مدني كان سيحظى بدراسات أكاديمية لولال تأليفه كتاب المقامات بجزأيه والذي أحيا فيه نوعاً أدبياَ مهملاً هي المقامات التي ظهرت في القرن الرابع الهجري على يد الهمذاني ونجح في مجاراة أشهر كتابها من القدامي والمحدثين بمحاكاته لهم وابتعاده عن التقليد والأتباع فظهرت فيها مقدرته الأدبية الثرة وخياله المجنح على النقيض من بقية مؤلفاته التي اتسمت بعدم الجدة إلا بلغتها العالية الثرة ناهيك عن أن أغلبها انطباعات شخصية أو عرض بطريقة مشوقة ويشمل ذلك حتى كتاباته الفلسفية ربما لأنه لم يستطيع أن يؤسس له اتجاهاً فلسفياً خاصاً به، فكانت هذه القناعة سبباً من أسباب لدراسته مقامياً لاعتقادي بأنها قد رسخته أدبياً وليس فيلسوفاً.
