كتابنا هذا سيرة أحد الرجال الذين صدقوا ما عاهدوا الله عليه، وقدموا الكثير من التضحيات لأجل نصرة دين الله، ونصرة نبيه () ونشر الدين الإسلامي، فَعُدَّ هذا الصحابي أحد كبار علماء هذه الأمة، وهو الصحابي الجليل أُبَي بن كعب بن قيس ))، الذي أختصّه الله تبارك وتعالى من فوق سبع سموات بأنْ أمر نبيه محمد () أن يقرأ القرآن الكريم على الصحابي أُبَي بن كعب()، وهذا تكريم عظيم من الله سبحانه وتعالى لهذا الصحابي الجليل وخصوصية بارزة لهُ، ولم يكتفِ الصحابي أُبَي بن كعب ()بهذا التكريم الإلهي بل أخذ على عاتقه العمل على حفظ كتاب الله العزيز والسعي لأخذ العلم من القرآن الكريم؛ لذلك وجد أن تحقيق هذا الهدف يكمن في ملازمة خير البشر وسيّد العلماء النبي محمد() لهذا السبب بقي ملازماً للنبي ()، ومن النتائج المهمة لملازمته النبي () أن أصبح منهلًا كبيراً للعلم ومرجعاً أولياً للكثير من الصحابة، ومن بعدهم التابعين إذ كانوا يلجؤون إليه في كثير من الأوقات لغرض السؤال في مختلف أوجه الشريعة. لم يقتصر دور أُبَي بن كعب ()على الجوانب العلمية فقط, بل كان له دور فعال في الأحداث العسكرية، التي شهدها رسول الله () حيث ناصرهُ في جهاده ضد مشركي قريش، فكان وبحق جنديا ً من الطراز الأول، شارك في الكثير من السرايا التي بعثها النبي () والمغازي التي قادها بنفسه حتى ذكر أنّه شهد بدرا ً وأحُدا ً والمشاهد كلّها مع النبي محمد (). بعد أن استقرت دولة المدينة وأخذت بالاتساع جعلهُ النبي محمد () يتولّى مهمة القضاء بين الناس، كما تولى لكثير من المهام كجباية أموال الصدقات وغيرها
