"إلى التي تحوّلت إلى مجرد رقم فوق ملف في مستشفى الأمراض النفسية والعصبية، إلى ج. التي صارعت وما تزال تصارع الدنيا من أجل أن لا يفترسها (المسخ)"، يوحي إهداء هذه الرواية بأنها منقولة عن قصة حقيقة لفتاة أدت بها المعاناة حد الجنون. وللحقيقة فإن في هذه الرواية من الأحداث ما يدعو إلى الجنون، إذ تتحدث عن مأساة إنسانية مؤلمة لفتاة يصيبها الأذى النفسي والجسدي والذي قد لا يمكن معالجته أو الشفاء منه، ضحية تصرفات مجرمة من أقرب الناس إليها، ومن الشخص الذي يفترض به حمايتها، وهو والدها الذي اعتدى عليها جنسياً وكان يمارس هذا الإعتداء يوميا.
اتخذت الكاتبة لروايتها هذه بنية لا تتضمن التعقيد كي يبقى لوقع الموضوع الأثر الأكبر. تتقاطع قصة الطبيبة بطلة الرواية مع قصة إحدى الفتيات التي حين أتت لزيارتها أول مرة، سجلت الطبيبة في تقريرها "إنها حالة مراهقة صعبة تعالج بالصبر والحكمة"، ولم تنتبه إلى الإشارات التي قدمتها إلا بعد فوات الآوان، ولم تكتشف إلا بعد انتحارها أنها كانت تعاني من اغتصاب والدها لها، تماما كما كان حالها هي نفسها.
تطرح هذه الرواية موضوعا شديد الحساسية، وشديد التأثير، يترك إحساسا بالغضب والنقمة والمرارة العالقة في الحلق، كما يترك علامات استفهام كبيرة حول، لم لا يتحرك المعنيين في المجتمع لمنع هذه الأحداث من الحصول، وكيف يمكن حماية الأطفال والمراهقين والمراهقات من هذه الممارسات المجرمة، وكيف يمكنهم الدفاع عن أنفسهم وعن حقوقهم، ومن هو المسؤول.
كتاب يبحث في أحد أشكال الإجرام في المجتمع، ولشديد الأسف يبرهن على حدوثه وعلى إمكانياتها. فكي تعم النظافة والطهارة، علينا كي نتمكن من إزالة الأوساخ الأكثر قرفاً، معرفة مواضعها، وعدم تخبأتها بأي عذر كان وتحت أي تغطية كانت. فليخرج الضحايا من "الصمت".
