نهت الشريعة الإسلامية أتباعها من المؤمنين عن التشبه بالمشركين. سواء في عباداتهم أو عاداتهم، وقد جاء هذا النهي مؤكداً على لسان النبي محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم إذ قال عليه الصلاة والسلام: "من تشبه بقوم فهو منهم" وقوله: "خالفوا المشركين". وقد عرف العلماء منزلة هذه المسألة وأهميتها، فخصوها بالتأليف، كما فعل شيخ الإسلام ابن تيمية وابن القيم والذهبي...
ومن أجمع الكتب في هذا الباب كتاب "اقتضاء الصراط المستقيم" لشيخ الإسلام ابن تيمية، فقد أوضع فيه بالدلائل من الكتاب والسنة والإجماع والأقيسة الصحيحة وجوب مخالفة أهل الجاهلية من اليهود والنصارى والأميين. ويبين الشيخ ما وقع في الناس من مشابهتهم، وذكر صوراً كثيرة، وقواعد وضوابط في هذا الباب، لا تكاد تجدها مجتمعة في غيره من الكتب.
ولهذا عني العلماء بهذا الكتاب، وأولوه نصيباً عظيماً من الاهتمام، وكثيراً ممن جاء بعده يعولون عليه، وينقلون منه، وفهم من قام باختصاره أمثال الشيخ محمد بن على الدين الحنبلي في كتابه "المنهج القويم في اختصار الصراط المستقيم" وهو هذا الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا والذي حافظ فيه المؤلف عن مراد الشيخ ابن تيمية، حيث أنه لم يخل بشيء إرادة المصنف، وإنما حذف المكروه من الأدلة، واختصر بعضها إذا كانت قصيرة، وأعرض عن ذكر كثير من الخلافات. ولأهمية هذا الكتاب ولأهمية موضوعه عني "يوسف بن محمد السعيد" بتحقيقه وتجلى عمله بـ: أولاً: تدوين ترجمة مختصرة للمختصر. ثانياً: كتابة المخطوطة وفق الرسم الإملائي الحديث، ثالثاً: خروج الآيات القرآنية والأحاديث النبوية، والآثار تخريجاً مختصراً.
