ويقف القارئ أمام مفارقة، تمثلت في قوة التحديات، وشدة الصعاب، وحجم وسطوة الأزمات التي واجهها بطل هذه الرواية من جهة، وبين ما اتسم به من قناعة، بعظيم ما أغدق الله عليه من فضل ونعمة من جهة ثانية.
وحثّ الكاتب قراءه على البدء بالتعامل مع المشكلات التي تواجه هذا العالم بعقلانية وموضوعية، من خلال توظيفه لشخصيات متميزة كنماذج اجتماعية، تفاعلت مع تلك الظروف السيئة بمنتهى الإيجابية، وحذرت من مغبة تجاهل هذه الأزمات، منذرة بسوء العواقب التي تنتظرنا، والتي قد تؤدي إلى استحالة الحياة على هذا الكوكب.
وقد ربط الكاتب بين إمكانية استمرار وجودنا على هذه الأرض من جهة، وقدرتنا على فرض ثقلنا لتغيير قواعد اللعبة من جهة ثانية، فنمنع بذلك استغلال القرار من قبل فئة صغيرة، تزرع تصورات كاذبة في عقول البشر، بغرض إشعال الحروب والحصول على المزيد من المصالح اللحظية.
"ما خطب السماء تُساقط على الأرض ريحاً صرصراً في يوم نحس مستمر؟ تنزع الناس كأنهم أعجاز نخل مُنقعر؟ تُذيق الناس برداً قارصاً زمهريراً، تأتي على حرثهم، وتُهلك الكثير من أنعامهم، تحتجز الأمم رهائن في أقبية منازلهم، عاجزين عن الحراك، منتظرين أن تأتي ساعتهم، فيموتوا إما من البرد أو من الجوع والعطش، أو تتداعى عليهم سقوف منازلهم، فتصبح هشيماً متراكماً فوق رؤوسهم.
قد تجمدت المياه على السواحل، فصارت صخوراً من الجليد تمنع البواخر من الاقتراب، وغطت الأرض أمتاراً من الثلوج، فما عادت المركبات تعرف لها طريقاً تسير عليه، وعجزت الطائرات عن التحليق، فالوقود قد تجمد تماماً في الأنابيب التي توصله إلى المحركات، قبل أن يتسنى له البدء بالاحتراق. تلك كانت كارثة الصقيع المطبق، وقعت بغتة، فأخذت الناس بعذابها، فكيف كان نكير؟".
