الحسين بن أحمد بن خالويه، أبو عبد الله
• لغويّ، من كبار النحاة.
• أصله من همذان. زار اليمن وأقام بذمار، مدة
• وانتقل إلى الشام فاستوطن حلب. وعظمت بها شهرته، فأحله بنو حمدان منزلة رفيعة. وكانت له مع المتنبي مجالس ومباحث عند سيف الدولة. وعهد إليه سيف الدولة بتأديب أولاده. وتوفي في حلب.

Book Description
كتاب "ليس في كلام العرب" لابن خالويه الذي نحن بصدده، هو من أشهر كتبه على ما يبدو، وقيل إنه كان كتاباً كبيراً، وصفه ابن خلكان قائلاً: "ولابن خالويه كتاب كبير من الأدب سماه (كتاب ليس) وهو يدل على إطلاع عظيم ، فإن مبنى الكتاب عن أوله إلى آخره على أنه ليس في كلام العرب كذا وليس كذا...".
مثال: ليس في كلام العرب واو وياء يجتمعان، الأول ساكن، من غير التقصير، والمليّن من الهمزة إلا مدغماً، نحو قولهم: يوم وأيام، وأصله: أيوَم، وكوَنت الداية كيّاً، وأصلُه كوياً، إلا أربعة أحرب: حيوان قبيلة، وحيوة اسم رجل، وعوى الكلب عوية واحدة، وضيوف، وهو الخيطل ذكر السنانيد.
وزعم السيوطي أن هذا الكتاب وضع "في ثلاث مجلدات ضخمتان" وأنه طالعه بنفسه، واختار منه في "المزهر" ما اختار. وقد حققه الشنقيطي وطبع بمصر طباعة سيئة، عن المكتبة المحمودية. وبالنظر لأهمية هذا الكتاب فقد اعتنى الدكتور ديزيره سقال" بشرحه وضبطه وبتنقيحه، وبالتقديم له بمقدمة جاءت بمثابة ترجمة لابن خالويه ولعصره ولمؤلفاته.
