"تسهو" كتب المذكرات عن رشيد طليع، واحداً من رعيل درزي تعدى، في إنتشاره خارج الجبل، حدود بلاد الشام إلى تركيا والبلقان شمالاً، فإلى الجزيرة العربية ومصر والسودان في الجنوب والغرب، وقد ساهم أفراده في الحياة السياسية والإدارية والعسكرية للمناطق التي حلّوا فيها، لا بل إن معظمهم تعدى نطاق "بلاده" المتواجد فيها، إلى فضاء أرحب وأكثر إمتداداً، شأن الأمير شكيب أرسلان وتأثيره في حركات العالم الإسلامي ومنتدياته.
وقد كانت لمساهمة رجال هذا الرعيل، في ميدان السياسة والإدارة، الصفة الرسمية حيناً، وحيناً كانت لهم الصفة الأهلية والحزبية، أفراداً في الجمعيات والأحزاب السياسية في بلاد الشام، وكانوا كذلك في الميدان العسكري، وإذا ما كان رشيد طليع متعادلاً في "مرتبته" وموقعه، مع غيره من الزعماء الوطنيين من العراقيين أو الفلسطينيين أو اللبنانيين الذي أمّوا دمشق، فإنه كان يبزهم أو يبز غيرهم من رجالات سورية، في مروحة معارفه وسعتها، فهو من ندرة، سبق لها أن شغلت عضوية في مجلس المبعوثان، وهو من قلّه كان لها من الموقع الإداري زمن العثمانيين.
وعليه يسعى المؤلف في صفحات هذا الكتاب، التعريف برشيد طليع، لا بل في أحيان كثيرة، إثبات أن هناك رشيد طليع! أي إيجاد "إخراج" قيد سياسي له، وتركيب تاريخ خاص به، في الإطار العام لتاريخ المنطقة ومسرحها السياسي، كما يهدف إلى قراءة تاريخ هذا الرجل، وتوقيعه من إتجاهات الأحداث وتفريعاتها.
رشيد طليع من رعيل عايش دوامة التحولات السياسية والعسكرية، التي كانت تعتمل داخل سوريا "العثمانية" والتي أدت في الشوط الأخير منها، الى تيار قومي عربي استقلالي عريض التحق به معظم القيادات السياسية في بلاد الشام، مع دخول قوات الثورة العربية الى دمشق.
