عملت العديد من البلدان العربية على تهيئة المناخ الإستثماري الملائم وتحديث الأنظمة والقوانين والتشريعات المتحكمة بالإستثمار، فكلما كان المناخ الإستثماري في البلد المضيف أفضل كلما كان أثر الإستثمارات الأجنبية المباشرة على النمو الإقتصادي أسرع وأقوى، فالحرية الإقتصادية وبساطة الإجراءات ووجود اسواق مالية متطورة وإرتفاع مستوى التعليم والتدريب وإنخفاض مؤشرات الفساد تزيد كثيراً من مساهمة الإستثمارات الأجنبية المباشرة في النمو الإقتصادي، وبذلك يصبح من الأهمية بمكان تحليل إتجاهات هذا الإستثمار، وتبيان الدور الذي يمكن أن يلعبه في عملية التنمية الإقتصادية والنمو الإقتصادي، وفي تقدم وتطور الدول إقتصادياً وإجتماعياً وسياسياً.
يهدف الكتاب إلى تبيان الآثار المختلفة لتدفقات الإستثمار الأجنبي المباشر في عدد من المتغيرات الإقتصادية الكلية في بلدان عربية مختارة (مصر، الأردن، ليبيا).
وقد اهتمت الدراسة بالعقد الأخير من القرن العشرين وبداية الألفية الجديدة (1990- 2005)، لما تميزا به من سياسات الإصلاح الإقتصادي في بعض البلدان العربية وما رافق ذلك من تدفق للإستثمارات الأجنبية المباشرة إلى الداخل، وغطت الدراسة البلدان العربية ككل في الفصل الثاني منه وبتخصيص أكثر في الفصل الثالث بالتعرض لمجموعة مختارة من البلدان العربية (مصر، الأردن، ليبيا) وفي الفصل الرابع كانت هناك محاولة لقياس أثر الإستثمار الأجنبي المباشر في بعض المتغيرات الإقتصادية الكلية في البلدان العربية المختارة (مصر، الأردن، ليبيا).
