ويعتمد المؤلف في هذا المجال على كتاب أصدره الكاتب الإنكليزي روم لانداو عام 1936 إثر رحلة قام بها إلى العالم العربي وقابل فيها كل هؤلاء القادة.
ويدعو الكتاب إلى رقفة تأمل ومراجعة مع أنفسنا ومع التاريخ: التأمل في المواقف القومية والوحدوية اتي كنا ندعو إليها، ومراجعة تاريخ عصر التشرذم الإقليمي والتمزق الطائفي الذي نعيشه اليوم.
ولعل أخطر ما في هذا الكتاب هو المقارنة التي يعرضها بين أحوال العالم العربي قبل خمسين سنة، وبين أحوال العالم العربي قبل خمسين سنة، وبين أحوال العالم العربي اليوم، فيدرك القارئ مدى التراجع الذي أصاب الفكر السياسي هذه الأيام، ومدى التخلف الذي لحق بالحريات السياسية قولاً وعملاً.
