لقد ساهمت من خلال عملي في الصحافة بنشر عشرات التحقيقات عن الانتشار اللبناني في العالم، وألقيت الضوء على شخصيات لبنانية حققت نبوغاً في عالم الاغتراب.
ومن خلال بحثي الدؤوب عن البارزين في عالم الانتشار اللبناني، لفتني ما تنشره الصحافة والمجلات العربية والإنكليزية عن الدكتور فيليب سالم، وعن دوره العالمي في البحث العلمي والمثابرة على اكتشاف العلاج الشافي لأمراض السرطان، والذي يتلازم مع اهتماماته الفكرية والوطنية والإنسانية بشكل عام.
وقد تابعت نشاطات "البروفسور سالم" منذ كان أستاذاً للطب في الجامعة الأميركية في بيروت وبعد انتقاله إلى أهم المراكز الطبية العالمية في مدينة هيوستن بولاية تكساس الأميركية، فوجدت أن اهتماماته لا تتركز على نبوغه الطبي فقط، بل شملت القضايا الفلسفية والإنسانية والوطنية والسياسية.
لهذه الأسباب، ولأسباب كثيرة، رأيت أن إعداد هذا الكتاب عن "البروفسور سالم" قد يكون مساههمة فعالة من قبلنا، نلقي بها الضوء على عينة نموذجية من الرجال الذين وإن غابوا بجسدهم عن لبنان فقد أبقوا هذا اللبنان يانعاً مبرعماً في وجدانهم ويومياتهم وأحلامهم ووجودهم.
