أبو محمد الفقسي راجز تردد اسمه كثيراً في كتب اللغة والمعجمات، وكانت أراجيزه موضوع شاهد لغوي أو نحوي، أما كتب الأدب فلا تكاد تشير إليه لا من قريب ولا من بعيد.
والكتاب الذي بين يدينا يجمع ما تبقى من أراجيز هذا الراجز، وذلك من المعجمات وكتب اللغة والنحو والأمالي وكتب البلدان والأمثال، منسقاً تسلسلها بحسب القافية الهجائية، وموجزاً شرحاً مختصراً لكل شطر من أشطار الأرجوزة، وهذا الشرح في غالبه منقول من مصادر الأجوزة التي تذكر في تخريجها، هذا وأتبعت الأراجيز بمعجم لغوي للألفاظ التي وردت في رجز أبي محمد، وهو معجم ينفع الدارسين للغة الفترة التي عاش فيها الراجز، أو للغة الراجز نفسه، ويشير هذا المعجم إلى بعض الظواهر اللهجية التي جاءت في هذا الرجز سواء كانت من لهجة بني أسد أو ظواهر من لهجات أخرى انعكست في رجز الراجز.
