وقد بحث الدكتور علي عبد الحسين في كتابه هذا هذه الآفاق من حيث الأضرار والعوائل والانتشار وتاريخ وطرق المكافحة على نطاق عالمي فجاء كتابه موسوعة هامة إذ يحتوي على حوالي 28 نوع من الأراضي والحشرات والحلم والديدان الشعبانية والطيور والجرذان والأدغال التي تصيب النخيل والتمور في مختلف بلدان العالم.
