يتوجه هذا الكتاب لطلاب وطالبات أقسام اللغة العربية والتربية الإسلامية في العالم العربي والإسلامي، وهو يأتي ثمرة خبرة المؤلف بالتدريس الجامعي والتعليم الثانوي، حيث بث فيه خلاصة خبرته الطويلة فتحدث عن طرائق تدريس مهارات اللغة العربية وآدابها في المرحلة الدراسية الثانوية فأحاط في الفصل الأول بمهارات اللغة العربية وأهدافها ومدرسيها، وتناول في الفصل الثاني طرائق التدريس وأهدافه السلوكية ووسائلها التعليمية وأنشطتها اللاصفية.
وهذان الفصلان ضروريان، للتعريف باللغة أولاً، ثم التعريف بطرائق التدريس وما يتبعها، تمهيداً لاقتحام الفصول القادمة التفصيلية. واهتم الفصل الثالث بمهارات تدريس القراءة، الصامتة والجهرية، كما تناول في الفصل الرابع تدريس مهارات الأدب بألوانه: الأناشيد والنصوص الأدبية، والقصة وتاريخ الأدب، والتراجم الأدبية.
ثم انتقل في الفصل الخامس إلى تدريس مهارة القواعد، وعالجته بعناية خاصة، تتجاوب مع صعوبته، وشكوى عموم الطلاب منه، وتناول طرائق تدريسه الخمسة تفصيلاً، مع نماذج تخطيط القاعدة النحوية.
وعني في الفصل السادس بتدريس مهارات التعبير الشفهي -الإصغاء والحديث. أما الفصل السابع فقد أفرده ليفصل القول في المهارات الكتابية، إذ يضم ثلاث مهارات. هي: الإملاء والخط والإنشاء الكتابي، وعني بإشكاليات القواعد الإملائية الشائعة خاصة، إضافة إلى اهتمامه ببيان أنواع الخطوط العربية، ونماذج منها، واهتمامه بأسباب الضعف في هذه المهارات الثلاث وعلاجها.
ولقد تناول في كل فصل مفهوم العنوان وأهميته، وأهدافه، وطرائق تدريسه، وتقويمه والفوائد السلوكية العملية منه، ومراحل تدريسه: التحضير والتدريس، وخطواتها، والخطط الدراسية، مع الدرس النموذجي لكل موضوع دراسي، مع إضافات منفردة إلى بعض الفصول، بما يهم المعلم والطالب.
