في كتابه هذا، يتناول الدكتور سيمون الحايك لحظة إستسلام غرناطة المسلمة سنة (1492م) للكاثوليكيين الذين نقضوا شروط التسليم التي تقول أن يحتفظ المسلمون بديانتهم وشرائعهم وأزيائهم وعاداتهم وتقاليدهم ولكن ما حصل هو العكس حيث أصدر الإمبراطور مرسوماً ملكياً يجبر سكان بلنسية على إعتناق الديانة المسيحية ويدعوا المسلمين إلى القبول بها واعداً إياهم بمعاملتهم كمسيحيين إذا أطاعوا وبنزول العقاب الصارم إذا خالفوا.
وهنا تبرز شخصية القائد الأندلسي فيرناندو دي بالور (1520- 1569م) الذي أعلق الجهر بإسلامه وسمي بــ محمد بن أمية، فقاد ثورة مسلمي الأندلس ضد الملك فيليب الثاني، والتي عرفت بحرب البشرات.
وفي الكتاب أيضاً يسرد الحايك كيف طرد المسيحيون اليهود الذين كانوا يعيشون في الأندلس بأمان في ظل حكم المسلمين، وكيف تغيرت حالهم بعد ما أصدر الملكين المسيحيين إيزابيلا وفرديناندو أمراً ملكي بتنصير كل المُورِ يسْكيّين، والموريسْكيّين هم المسلمون الأسبان الذين بقوا في بلادهم ظناً منهم أنهم سيلاقون المعاملة الحسنة من إخوانهم الإسبان المسيحيين" ولكن الذي حصل أن محاكم التفتيش تغنيت من تعذيب المورسْكيّين رجالاَ ونساءاً وأطفالاً بمباركة ومشاركة الكنيسة الكاثوليكية في تلك الحقبة من الزمن.
وفي هذا الإطار يذكر المؤلف الوثيقة الأصلية المكتوبة باللغة البلنسية والموجودة في "مجموعة القوانين التابع لمملكة بلنسية" والتي تدعوا إلى عكس ما حصل على أرض الواقع... ففي فترة من فترات التاريخ - كما يقول المؤلف - أصبحت الدولة الإسبانية المشكلة من مملكة قشتالة وغرناطة وارغون وبلنسية قوين بدينين المسيحية في قشتالة وغرناطة والإسلام في بلنسية وأرغون... غير أن مسلمي أرغون وبلنسية لم ينعموا طويلاً بهذه الحرية الدينية...".
