هذا الكتاب يتحدث عن "العرب" و "الثقافة العربية" لا عن الإسلام، وذلك لأن نفراً من غير المسلمين قد ساهموا في هذه الثقافة إلا أن هؤلاء كانوا عرباً، وقد وضعوا كتباً عارضوا فيها المتزمتين من المسلمين، وأن هؤلاء العرب الذين ذكرهم هيرودوت والذين بسطوا سلطانهم على شعوب كثيرة، مهدوا للمغلوبين الطريق للإندماج في المجتمع العربي لغةً وأدباً وعلماً وديناً، وأصبح الخلق العربي والطبيعة العربية والثقافة العربية مثالاً يحتذى، ويهدف أيضاً إلى تقديم شكر كان يجب ان يقدم إلى العرب منذ عصور قديمة، فالألمان يدينون للعرب بالشيء الكثير، وليست اللغة الألمانية بمستثناة.
هذا، مع الإشارة إلى أننا لا ننكر آثار الشعوب الأخرى كاليونان والرومان والصينين والهنود.
