هو أبو محمد عبدالله جمال الدين بن يوسف بن أحمد بن عبدالله بن هشام الأنصاري المصري من (708 هـ - 761 هـ) (1309م - 1360م) .من أئمة النحو العربي الذي "فاق أقرانه شهرة وشأى من تقدمه من النحويين وأعيا من أتى بعده.لا يشق له غبار في سعة الإطلاع وحسن العبارة وجمال التعليل, الصالح الورع" لزم الشهاب عبد اللطيف بن المرحل وتلا على ابن السراج وسمع على أبو حيان التوحيدي ديوان زهير بن أبي سلمى, ولم يلازمه, ولا قرأ عليه غيره. وحضر دروس التاج التبريزي وقرأ على التاج الفاكهاني شرح الإشارة له إلا الورقة الأخيرة. وحدث عن ابن جماعة بالشاطبية, وتفقه على المذهب الشافعي ثم تحنبل فحفظ مختصر الخرقي قبيل وفته بخمس سنين. تخرج به جماعة من أهل مصر وغيرهم وتصدر لنفع الطالبين وانفرد بالفوائد الغريبة والمباحث الدقيقة, وكانت له ملكة يتمكن بها من إيصال المعلومة وتفهيم الطلبة. وكان متواضعاً دمث الخلق شديد الشفقة رقيق القلب.
قال عنه ابن خلدون: "ما زلنا ونحن بالمغرب نسمع أنه ظهر بمصر عالم بالعربية يقال له ابن هشام أنحى من سيبويه". وقال عنه مرة أخرى: "إن ابن هشام على علم يشهد بعلو قدره في صناعة النحو وكان ينحو في طريقته منحاة أهل الموصل الذين اقتفوا أثر ابن جني واتبعوا مصطلحتعليمه, فأتى من ذلك بأمر عجيب دال على قوة ملكته واطلاعه".

وفاته
توفي في ليلة الجمعة وقيل ليلة الخميس من ذي القعدة سنة إحدى وستين وسبعمائة (1360 م) ورضي عنه.
