لا أذكر قط أنني توانيتُ يوماً عن تلبية رغبات أبنائي وعائلتي وأصدقائي ما استطعتُ إلى ذلك سبيلاً. وها أنا اليوم أستجيب لطلبهم بتدوين مذكراتي التي كنتُ قد رددتها عليهم بما فيها من أحداث وقصص ومفاجآت، فيها النجاح وفيها الفشل.. فيها الحلو وفيها المُر..
أدوّنها اليوم وأخطها في أسطر وصفحات معدودة، وإني لأعلم في صميم نفسي أنهم سيقرؤونها ثم سيعودون ويقرؤونها مراراً وتكراراً.. وسيقرؤها أبناؤهم من بعدهم.. كنتُ دائماً بطبعي ميالاً إلى الكتابة، وبشكل خاص القصص الصغيرة والمقالات المعبرة التي أعنونها بـ"الشذرات". وأهوى الصحافة والإعلام، ففي عام 1947 التحقت بكلية الصحافة المصرية كطالب غير مقيم، وباشرت الدراسة حتى عام 1948 حيث حالت النكبة بيني وبين رغبتي في إكمال دراستي. لكني استأنفتُ الدراسة بعد خمس سنوات لحقت هذا التاريخ، ففي تلك الفترة عملتُ في "الربع الخالي" في السعودية لدى شركة أمريكية تعمل في التنقيب عن النفط. وقد التحقتُ بالدراسة التي استمرت مدة ثلاث سنوات حصلت خلالها على "دبلوم كلية الصحافة المصرية" عام 1954. ولاحقاً أصبحت المراسل الإعلامي للجرائد والنشرات التي تصدر عن شركة الزيوت العربية الأمريكية "أرامكو" باللغة العربية والإنجليزية، لمدة خمسة عشر عاماً.
الأيام العشرة الأخيرة في الرملة كانت بالنسبة لي ولكل من حولي أياماً مصيرية ومنعطفاً أقل ما يُقال عنه إنه صعب وتاريخي غيّر حياتنا إلى الأبد. إذ إن احتلال فلسطين وتشريد أهلها في مختلف بقاع الأرض، جعل لكل فرد في هذه الحياة قصة تختلف عن غيره، وأنا كغيري كان لي قصة أهم ما يميّزها أنها من صنع قضية شائكة حيَّرت العالم، تلك القضية التي ميّزت كل واحد بحكاية خطت فصلها الأول أحداث الهجرة والشتات.. وتركتْ كلاًّ منّا يكمل قصته.
