"الأظافر ندم الأصابع، الأرض امتحان النظر، الرصيف قدم المشي فهل مضارع، التنفس قدر الرئتين الحب انشغال القلب بنفسه، النوم حكمة الجسد، الأبيض كذب الألوان، الحرب لغة الحوار، الحرب في الفم، على الأكتاف، ينقلها الرجال ويتركونها تعود على أعقاب البنادق الحرب حرب أيضاً. كذلك يدي حين تقول لك جملة قاسية ثم ترتد ناقصة إلي... قلبي عليك يا ابنتي وأنت تتعلمين المشي، وأنت تلهين بأصابعك، وأنت تتنفسين بصعوبة كأن كائناتك الخفية تقاسمك الهواء".
هكذا كان، سقطت سعلة أخيرة من الرئتين. وسقط معها دم وسجائر وفناجين قهوة وكلام وندوب وكتب. ولم يبق إلا رئتان تمضغان الهواء الذي خلفه آخرون. شهيق وزفير أبديان تحت قميص بلا ظهر بزهوره اليابسة كالدماء.
