كان هذا الكتاب من الإصدارات التي حاولت التعرف على ابداعات الخيال في الثقافة الإنسانية عن طريق التعرف على بنية الخيال في مسارها والذي يعتبر مفتاح كل دراسة لعلم الإنسان، ولكل العلوم الإنسانية بما فيها الفنون التي تجسد وتحمل بنية خيال مجتمعاتها. أبدأ مواجهتي مع التبادل الثقافي بتقديم سيناريو لتطور المسرح الأوروبي -الأمريكي وقد ركزت على هؤلاء الفنانين الذين انغمسوا في اختبار وتبني وانتاج أداء تليد من الشرق وإنني أركز على الاستخدامات الأوربية-الأمريكية للبناء في المسرح الهندي.وفي مقالتي"مسرح المهاجرين"توفرت على دراسة طريقة باربا في الثقافة.إن ما يعنيني هو أخلاقيات العرض التي تكمن وراء أي تبادل ثقافي والعلاقات الاجتماعية التي تؤسسه،إن هذه العلاقات (والتي يتم إهمالها عادة في النقد المسرحي)تقف وراء إختياريل إنتاج بيتر بروك لـ"المهابهاراتا". في دراساتي في الجزء الأول من الكتاب والمعنية ببعض الفنانين نجد أن هناك صلات واضحة في موقفهم من الشرق واستيعابهم للمواد غير الغربية. وأتمنى أن تصبح هذه الصلة واضحة للقارئ من سياق عملهم في التبادل الثقافي. في الجزء الثاني من الكتاب أعرض استعادة مفصلة لمسرحية حفلة موسيقية شهيرة في
