في معترك الحداثة العربية ظهرت، في المستوى التنظيري، إتجاهات متباينة إيديولوجيا، حاولت الدفاع عن مبادئها وأسسها التي رأت فيها الأسس الوحيدة الصالحة لقيام نهضة حضارية شاملة في الوطن العربي.
وقد عبرت تلك الإتجاهات عن نفسها، على الصعيد الشعري، بأشكال مستحدثة أو مقتبسة من الغرب.
وقد كان الحماس كبيراً في الدفاع عن الذات كما في الهجوم على الآخر النقيض، لأن الأمر يتعلق بقضية وجود، وفي هذا السياق يجب النظر إلى مشكلية قصيدة النثر في النقد العربي المعاصر على أنها ساحة من ساح الصراع من أجل إثبات الذات وتحقيق الوجود.
لقد عملت قصيدة النثر على التميّز بشكلها وبلغتها، كما عمل دعاتها على التنظير لها بإعتبارها شكلاً مفارقاً لما دونه من الأشكال الشعرية، فإلى أي مدى استطاعت قصيدة النثر أن تحقق تميُّزَها؟ وما الإبدالات التي اقترحتها لتحقيق التميز والتجاوز؟ وهل كان تنظير دعاتها رسماً لواقع موجود أم واقع متخيل؟.
إن هذه الأسئلة، وما يمكن أن يتفرع عنها من أسئلة أخرى، تمثل المحور الذي يدور حوله هذا الكتاب، وهي أسئلة تُبرز بعضَ دواعي إختيار قصيدة النثر موضوعاً للدراسة، فقد شغلتنا هذه القصيدة منذ زمن غير قصير، وكانت موضوعاً لكتاب لنا من خلال أحد أعلامها، وهو محمد الماغوط (ريشة الشاعر، دار ميم، الجزائر 2008)، وعلى الرغم من أن بحثنا في شعر الماغوط كان قد اقتصر على الصورة الشعرية، فإنه نبهنا إلى قضايا أخرى تعد قضايا إشكالية بحق، لقد كان بحثنا ذاك كوة أطللنا منها على عالم أرحب وأعقد.
