المسرح المدرسي هو مجموعة النشاطات المسرحية بالمدارس التي تقدم فيها فرقة المدرسة أعمالاً مسرحية لجمهور يتكون من الزملاء والأساتذة وأولياء الأمور وهي تعتمد أساساً على إشباع الهوايات المختلفة للتلامذة كالتمثيل والرسم والموسيقى... إن الهدف الذي يرمي إليه هذا النوع من المسرح هو تنمية ثقافة التلميذ لجهة عدد من المسائل الهامة التي تتعلق بشخصيته وتطوير قدرته على التعبير ورفع مستوى ملكة التذوق الفني لديه وتعليمه من التمثيل.
والمسرح المدرسي الذي يتناوله هذا الكتاب بالدراسة هو المسرح الذي لا يتطلب مستلزمات مادية باهظة التكاليف ويمكن لأي مدرسة تنفيذ خطواته بسهولة ومن ميزانية النشاطات اللامنهجية التي تقررها في العادة إدارة المدرسة، ويحتوي الكتاب على ثلاثة فصول يتناول الفصلان الأول والثاني منه المسرح المدرسي وفوائده، والمراحل العمرية للطفولة ونوع العمل المسرحي الملائم لها، مع شرح مفصل للطرائق الممكن استخدامها في كتابة قصة ممسرحة يتم تنفيذ مشاهدها في قاعة الصف أو في باحة المدرسة... أما الفصل الثالث من الكتاب فيحول نماذج مسرحية لمراحل عمرية مختلفة يمكن الاستعانة بها في حال عدم وجود الكتاب المسرحي كما يحوي رسوماً تبين لنا أنواع المسرح واستكماله وبهدف اعتماد أحد هذه الأشكال وفقاً لطبيعة الإمكانات المادية الموجودة في المدرسة وفقاً لما يلائم مضمون النص المسرحي.
