في هذا العمل يختار الدكتور محمد عبد الرحمن العينية / إختصاصي التخدير والعناية المركّزة أهم كتاب أميركي شهير – Clinical Onesthesiology – من سلسلة Lange المعروفة في العلوم الطبية، وينقله إلى العربية باعتباره من أهم المراجع المعتمدة في العالم في هذا المجال ولكونه يمزج بين العلم النظري الأكاديمي من جهة وفنون الممارسة العملية من جهة أخرى، ولكونه أيضاً يعطي فكرة عن مبادىء المدرسة الأميركية في التخدير.
جاء الكتاب في مجلدين احتوت خمسة أجزاء ينطوي تحت كل عنوان منه عدد من الفصول. يوجد في بداية كل فصل وعن أهم المفاهيم الجوهرية التي يجب تذكّرها حول الموضوع المطروح للبحث ضمن متن الفصل. كذلك تحتوي بعض الفصول فقرات جديدة مبوّبة بعنوان (حالة للمناقشة) تتحدث عن حالة نظرية أو عملية تحتاج للمزيد من الدرس والتمحيص، وتحوي بعض الفصول أيضاً فقرات أخرى مبوبة بعنوان (مقتطفات من الممارسة التخديرية) وهي عبارة عن محاضرات مختصرة لبعض أشهر أساتذة علم التخدير في الولايات المتحدة الأميركية يتحدث كل واحد منهم عن جانب من جوانب فن ممارسة التخدير العملي، وبهذا يكتمل الجانب النظري والتطبيقي في مختلف الأجزاء وهي على التوالي: الجزء الأول: المعدات التخديرية والمراقبة، الجزء الثاني: علم الأدوية السريري، الجزء الثالث: التخدير النامي وتسكين الألم، الجزء الرابع: الفيزيولوجيا والفيزيولوجيا المرضية والتدبير التخديري، والجزء الخامس: مشاكل خاصة مثل: الإختلاطات التخديرية، الإنعاش القلبي الرئوي، العناية الحرجة وغيرها.
