حين تفرز السياسة واقعاً مربكاً في مكان وزمان معينين، يكون الأدب انعكاساً لموازين القوى وكلمة حق في وجه واقع جائر؛ على الرغم من كون المعركة بين السياسة والأدب غير متكافئة، الأولى لديها من الأسلحة ما يغيّر المعالم والوقائع، والثاني أعزل إلاّ من الكلمة.
في تجربته الأدبية الاولى "شمعة في أعماق السجون" يجسد الكاتب تجربة شخصية مرّ بها، خرج منها برؤى جديدة وفكر متجدد وبقلب يكبر بالتسامح، وبهذا الكون فعل الروي معادلاً روائياً للحقيقة، فيه دفاع عن حرية المعتقد والفكر، وفيه من حب الوطن الكثير.
يقول الكاتب في ثنايا عمله: "تعرفت على مذاهب وأديان وثقافات لم أكن أعرفها، وعرفت التشدد الديني والانحلال الأخلاقي وعرفت الحياد بينهما، واخترت سمو النفس إلى مبة كل ما يدب على وجه الأرض من مخلوقات الله، بدءاً بأفضلها-الإنسان وانتهاءً بأصغرها-الحشرات. وأصبحت أنظر بتلك العين المحبة لكل شيء والخالية من كل الشوائب. وأحببت أن تشاركوني ذلك الحب... فلكم حبي. كم من سجين روحه حرة طليقة وكم من حرّ طليق روحه سجينه".
