في هذا الكتاب مقالات متنوعة، في موضوعات مختلفة، كتبت في فترات مبتاعدة، توقفت عند عتبة الرابع والعشرين من تشرين الثاني 1998، يجمعها هدف واحد هو وحدة الوطن اللبناني، ووحدة المواطنين اللبنانيين، ولم يعتمد في إيرادها نسقاً تراتبياً، لا من حيث موضوعاتها، ولا من حيث تاريخ نشرها، بل كان تواترها وفقاً لوقعها في نفس الكاتب، فهي موضوعات مستقل بعضها عن بعضها الآخر تمام الاستقلال. وقد اندرجت في توجهين: توجه في موضوعات وطنية عامة، وتوجه آخر يركز على دور التربية في التكوين الوطني. وكان للخطة التربوية، ولمناهجها الجديدة، الاهتمام الأكبر، وكان التركيز الأهم على بعض التناقضات في المناهج والأهداف التي رسمتها، وفي طليعتها الغبن اللافت اللاحق بدور اللغة العربية، من خلال مساواتها باللغات الأجنبية المعتمدة للتدريس في لبنان بينما هي اللغة الوطنية الرسمية، اللغة الأم في بلد "عربي الهوية" والانتماء"، حيث الواجب يقضي بأن يعزز هذا الدور، ولا سيما أنها العامل الأول في سبيل الإصلاح الوطني وتوحيد المواطنين اللبنانيين. ويكون ذلك بتكوين أجيال لبنانية متجانسة الثقافة والمفاهيم الوطنية، انطلاقاً من مراحل التدريس الأولى.
في هذا الكتاب معاناة كاتب، آلمه صراع وطني عبثي دام يتجدد في المواسم، ويحول دون قيام الوطن اللبناني السوي. تجنبه ممكن لو تساهل رجال السياسة ورجال الدين، فتنازلوا عن بعض مكاسبهم الخاصة، وسهروا على سلامة الناس، وبالتالي على سلامة الوطن. وفيه دعوة إلى الصدق في الفكر والقول والعمل، بعدما أصبح التكاذب شعار المرحلة، وبعدما فسد ملح الإصلاح.
