حكايات العمر الضائع، قصة تنتمي إلى ما يسمى بالأدب الواقعي تروي سيرة طفل أصبح مقدماً في الجيش وتصوِّر معاناته ومعاناة عائلته التي عاشت في ظل الإقطاع حيث كانت في خدمة سيده المطاع، ونالها من الأذى ما نالها بسبب الثارات العشائرية والأعيب السياسية، كما تصوِّر حياته اليائسة في طرابلس وتحديداً في منطقة الفقر والإهمال والتخلّف - التبانة - حيث نشأ وترعرع، تحوطه أخته برعايتها، وأخوه بحمايته، قبل أن يُستشهد على أرض فلسطين، متطوعاً في جيش الإنقاذ.
وتغوص الرواية في أدق التفاصيل وتحيط بدقائقها، في سرد قصصي تتوالد فيه الحكايات، حكاية بعد حكاية والإنطباع الذي يخرج منه قارئ (حكايات العمر الضائع) هو شعور بالإحباط والأسى لما كانت قد وصلت إليه الأوضاع، واستنكار شديد لبعض الممارسات التي أسهمت في صنع الهزيمة... فإذا كان هذا هو المقصود من القصة، كالقصة قد نجحت في توليد هذا الإنطباع، وإذا كان الهدف منها هو تسليط الأضواء على بعض المثالب وفضحها وتعريتها، فالقصة، من هذا المنظور، نجحت كذلك، غير أن القصة لم تترك نافذة ولا حتى كُوّة صغيرة للإرهاص بإمكانية التغيير، ولا للأمل فيه يوماً... وهذا ما يتصور الكاتب يقصده.
