في هذا الكتاب مجموعة مقالات تتناول جوانب متعددة تتعلق بالموحدين وبمذهب التوحيد. وهي ترمي إلى التأسيس لقراءة عقلانية ومعاصرة فجمعت بين التراث الفلسفي للتوحيد والتراث المذهبي الدرزي إلى قراءات في بعض النصوص الينابيع الهامة، كل في هذا الكتاب بداية لمشروع تطويري تحتاجه الجماعة الدرزية ويحتاجه محيطها.
كان الدروز أحد أهم المحاور البارزة في تاريخ المشرق العربي حتى منتصف القرن التاسع عشر. هم عماد الإمارة التي نشأت على ساحل بلاد الشام. وهم بذرة الكيان السياسي الذي تسمى فيما بعد لبنان. مع انهيار الإمارة تحول دور الدروز من موقع السلطة إلى موقع المعارضة واندرج تاريخهم في المقاومة العربية الإسلامية.
ولم يستعد الدروز دورهم السياسي إلا في إطار حركة التحرر الوطني العربي من الثورة السورية الكبرى إلى حركة القومية العربية. ولم يكن لهم في يوم من الأيام أي مشروع سياسي خاص. لكن موقعهم داخل المعادلات الكيانية الحديثة سيما في لبنان يتراجع بشكل ملحوظ إلى حد الشعور المتعاظم بالتهمش. هذا المستوى السياسي ليس هو الوحيد في أزمة الانتماء التي يعانيها الدروز اليوم فثمة أزمة تاريخية تتعلق بالمذهب. لذا يشكل هذا الكتاب مساهمة أولية ربما تكون الولى من نوعها في تناول هذين الشأنين السياسي والمذهبي بالنقد والتحليل. والهدف الأساسي لهذا الجهد هو العمل على تحفيز انخراط الدروز في مشروع الدولة الحديثة والمجتمع الحديث في مواجهة نزعات الانزواء والتقوقع التي تكبر كل يوم.
