يعد القرآن الكريم هو المصدر التشريعي الأول في الإسلام، والسنة هي المصدر الثاني من مصادر التشريع الاسلامي، فهي مثبتة وموافقة للقرآن الكريم، وموضحة ومبينة لمشكله، ومفصلة لمجمله ومقيدة لمطلقه، ومختصة لعامه وشارحة لأحكامه وأهدافه، ومفرعة على أصوله، بل هي التطبيق العملي لما جاء به القرآن الكريم.
وفي هذا الكتاب توضيح بعض مباحث في علوم الحديث، استهلها الدكتور أحمد خليل عسكر/ أستاذ الحديث وعلومه بجامعتي الأزهر والملك فيصل - من معين ما سطره علماء الأمة في القديم والحديث، سالكاً الأسلوب السهل ملتزماً النهج العلمي.
انقسمت الدراسة الى تمهيد وخمسة أبواب وفصول ومباحث تناولت الآتي: التمهيد ويشتمل تعريف السنة في اللغة والاصلاح، التعريف بعلم الحديث وبيان نشأته، الحديث القدسي... الخ.
أما الباب الأول فتناول فيه الكاتب: أقسام الحديث من حيث قائله، ويشتمل على ثلاثة فصول: أضاءت على، الحديث المرفوع، الحديث الموقوف، الحديث المقطوع. وأما الباب الثاني ففيه: بيان أقسام الحديث من حيث عدد رواته، ويشتمل على فصلين: الأول: الحديث المتواتر، والثاني: حديث الآحاد.
وأما الباب الثالث: أقسام الحديث من حيث القبول والرد، ويشتمل على ثلاثة فصول: الأول: الحديث الصحيح، الثاني: الحديث الحسن، الثالث: الحديث الضعيف، ويأتي الباب الرابع في: الأنواع المشتركة بين الصحيح والحسن والضعيف، ويشتمل على أربعة فصول: وهي: المسند، المتصل، المعنعن والمؤنن، المسلسل.
وأخيراً جاء الباب الخامس في: أهم علوم الحديث من حيث الدراية، ويشتمل على أربعة فصول هي: مختلف الحديث، المحكم، الناسخ والمنسوخ، غريب الحديث.
