إن البحث في النهضة والتقدم يتطلب البحث في الفكر والاقتصاد والسياسة والقانون، والمجتمع والبيئة والتاريخ والثقافة والعلم والتكنولوجيا و"الأنا" و"الآخر"، وكل شيء يؤثر أو يتأثر بالحركة التاريخية للمجتمع. ومن هنا فإن النظر إلى موضوعة التقدم من زاوية واحدة سادت الوطن العربي على مدى مئة وخمسين عاماً ونيف هي عملية مثمرة. والتحليل التجزيئي لا يسعف في هذه الحالة.
من هنا فإن ما يسعى إليه هذا الكتاب هو أن ينقل "تركيبة" النهضة وتعددية أبعادها إلى القارئ والسياسي والمفكر والمثقف. وكما يسعى المثقف دائماً لأن يعترف أهل العلم البحث والعلم التطبيقي وأهل السياسة بالأبعاد غير المادية للمجتمع والحياة، فإن العكس صحيح، فعلى المفكر والمثقف أن يستوعب المحركات العلمية التطبيقية "بجفافها" وأرقامها ومدلولاتها في إطار عملية النهوض والتقدم.
وخلافاً لما كان عليه الأمر في القرن التاسع عشر وأوائل القرن العشرين، فإن كل شيء أصبح اليوم قابلاً للقياس بالرقم. أصبح العالم عالماً رقمياً Digital، بمعنى أن النهضة والتقدم والحريات وسيادة القانون، وحسن الحاكمية والشفافية والفساد والعلم والتكنولوجيا والتقدم الاجتماعي... الخ الخ لم تعد محض أوصاف تصدر عن انطباعات ذاتية. وبالتالي يمكن أن يغرق الكاتب والقارئ في توصيفها وتكبيرها وتصغيرها كما يشاء، ويغرق السياسي في تلوينها وتشكيلها كما يحلو له. لقد أصبحت كلها مفردات لها قياساتها ومؤشراتها الدولية التي وضعها العلماء والباحثون على مدى السنين ودون قراءة الأرقام والتمعن في مدلولاتها المركبة من جميع الأطراف، ودون أخذ هذه الأرقام مقياساً لنجاعة الأداء وسلامة الفكر، فإن مسألة التقدم تبقى مسألة هلامية أو نظرية تدور في حلاقات وهمية، ليس لها علاقة قوية بالواقع.
ومن هنا فقد جاء الكتاب وفيه الكثير من الأرقام، ابتداء بمساحات الأراضي، وهي مسألة لا يتوقع المفكر أن تكون موضع اهتمام أبداً، وانتهاءً بمقياس الحاكمية. هل تقبل الفلسفة الأرقام؟ وهل يقبل الفكر هذا القياس؟ تلك مسألة جدلية، ولكن الأكيد أن التقدم الحضاري يقبل ذلك، بل ولا يقوم إلا على قواعد رقمية. وأن المشروع النهضوي لأي أمة يستلزم الرؤية التركيبية الشاملة. وكتاب النهضة وصراع البقاء إنما هو جهد في ذلك الاتجاه، وهو يستكمل جهداً للمؤلف سابقة في سبيل بناء مستقبل وطني وعربي أكثر ازدهاراً، وأعلى قيمة، وأقدر على مشاركة العالم مسيرة الارتقاء والتقدم.
