إن الهدف من وضع هذا الكتاب هو شرح لطبيعة الصراع المحتدم بين الثقافة العربية الإسلامية والعولمة الثقافية التي يروج لها المفكرون والسياسيون الغربيون على أنها النظام العالمي الجديد، الواجب على الدول النامية اتباع نموذجه، واقتفاء أثره من الألفية الثالثة، بحجة أن الحضارة الغربية لها جذور عميقة ضارية في تاريخ الفلسفة اليونانية والرومانية، امتدت منذ القرن الرابع عشر إلى تصور النهضة والتنوير والعلوم التجريبية والصناعة والتكنولوجيا التي تميزت بالإبداع والابتكار والحداثة، مما يجعلها النموذج الأمثل للثقافات الأخرى لاتباعه والسير على نهجه.
لمواجهة تلك الفرضية الاستعلائية الغربية غير المنصفة للثقافات الأخرى ذات الحضارات العريقة، قام المؤلف من جانبه بعرض للإشكالية القائمة بين العولمة الثقافية التي يدعو من خلالها الغرب إلى ثقافة أحادية من جهة، وبين الفكر العربي الإسلامي الذي يدعو إلى التعددية الثقافية، وحق كل شعب لتقرير مصيره، والمحافظة على حضارته. ومن هذا المنطلق أوضح خطر العدوان الثقافي الغربي على الثقافة العربية، وغزوة لهويتها التراثية، واختراقه لخصوصيات عقائدها وتقاليدها وقيمها، مما جعل ثقافتنا القومية معرضة للهيمنة الغربية. وقد أوضح في الكتاب أنه لا يصح للعولمة الثقافية أن تستجيب أو تنحاز لدعوات الكثير من المفكرين والسياسيين الغربيين التي تلح على أن تنصهر ثقافات العالم في بوتقة عالمية واحدة، تسيطر فيها الثقافة الغربية–الأمريكية، وتحكم قبضتها على مختلف ثقافات الدول النامية، مدعية أنها ثقافة تعتمد على عراقة حضارتها، ووفرة اقتصادياتها، وقوة برامجها الإعلامية، وتطور تكنولوجيتها في علوم المعرفة والمعلومات، والاتصالات الفضائية والأرضية وشبكات الإنترنت.
