في يومٍ مِنَ الأيامِ كانَ اطفالُ العالمِ يَرْكُضونض في الإنحاءِ ويَمْرَحونَ... وفي بُقْعَةٍ خَضراءَ اصْطَدَمَتْ طفلةٌ سَمراءث وصُنْدوقُها الصَّغيرُ بِطفلٍ لا ألوانَ له، تَعَثَّرَ الطفلُ وسَقَطَ، فقامتِ الطفلةُ وساعَدَتْهُ على الوقوفِ، ثُمَّ سَألتْهُ بإسْتِنْكارٍ: "لماذا لا لَوْنَ لك؟".

Tourmenté par une nostalgie dévorante, Presque viscérale, le vieux Juif, dévot et aveugle, trouve enfin l’occasion de revenir au Maroc, à Oujda, où il a vu le jour.
La rencontre avec un chirurgien à la retraite, lui aussi la proie de ses souvenirs, et une vision onirique guideront ses pas dans un pèlerinage qui comblera sa piété, puisqu’il en sera recompense en mourant dans un "baiser doux". Une mort que le Tout Puissant, selon la Bible, reserve à ses fidèles les plus proches.
Comme dans ses autres romans, Mohamed Taan garde le même style narratif simple et limpide, sans jamais se départir de son thème favori: le brassage entre gens de religions différentes, qu’il appelle, sans répit, à se réconcilier.
Mohamed Taan est né à Tyr au Liban. Il étudie la médecine en France puis se spécialise en chirurgie, qu’il exerce d’abord au Liban, puis au Maroc et enfin au Nigéria, où il reside aujourd’hui. Le Pèlerin de Oujda est son huitième roman.
