هذا الكتاب عبارة عن مخطوط قديم يرجع مؤلفه إلى عصر السلطان الملك المنصور 808هـ - 1405م، وهو "محمد بن عيسى بن إسماعيل الحنفي" وهو كتاب نادر في موضوعه، لهذا دأب الدكتور "خالد أحمد الملا السويدي" إلى تحقيقه وتقديمه إلينا بالشكل المطلوب لإتمام الفائدة.
يتناول الكتاب موضوع الحرب بدءاً من القتال البدائي بالسيف، والرمح، والمقاليع، والفؤوس وإنتهاءً بإستعمال البارود، والقذائف، والحرب الجرثومية وحرب الإشاعات، والحرب النفسية، كذلك يتخلل الكتاب موضوعات مثل: الخطط الحربية على مستوى الجيوش، وإدارة المعارك الكبيرة والقتال الراجل، والفارس على ظهور الخيل، كذلك يتخلل الكتاب موضوعات هامة وحساسة من مثل القانون الدولي في الحروب، حين استند المؤلف على كتاب (السير الكبير) للعلامة محمد بن الحسن الشيباني صاحب أول مشروع في العالم لقوانين الحرب، والأسرى، والفيء، كل ذلك مدعماً بالأمثلة والشواهد.
أما موضوع حرب البارود فيقدم فيه المؤلف وصفات لإستخدام وصناعة البارود الذي يفخر العرب به، ولم ينس المؤلف موضوع الطبابة العسكرية ومعالجة الأمراض وتطرق كذلك لعدة الفرسان مثل الخيل حيث احتوى الكتاب فصلاً في أهمية الخيل، وطرق العناية بها، وقيادتها، وتدريبها، وتدريب الفرسان عليها، وتطرق المؤلف لموضوع صناعة السيوف حيث استعان بمخطوطة صناعة السيوف للعلامة إسحق الكندي التي قدمها للخيفة المعتصم بالله العباسي التي تعتبر من أندر النصوص الخطية المبكرة في تاريخ التراث العربي.
وكل ذلك جاء مدعماً بالشواهد القرآنية، والأحاديث النبوية الشريفة، فيكون بذلك الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا إضافة هامة وجديدة لكتب التراث التي نحن بأشد الحاجة لتعريف أجيالنا بتراث أمتهم الإسلامية.
