أشعار الغجر هي مثل أشعار أي شعب آخر يمتلك أدواته ومناخاته الشعرية الخاصة، فهي تتسم بالطفولة والسذاجة والبساطة والمباشرة. وهي إلى جانب كل هذا تعكس عادات التجوال الذي لا ينتهي: عيون متسائلة، مغنون مجهولو الهوية. حظائر حيوانات، خطف وسرقة خيول وحيرة في مواجهة عالم غريب. وهذا يعني أن أشعار الغجر هي وليدة إشعاع اللحظة وتعبير عن حالة! إنسانية فريدة في تجربتها لم يتبق لها إلا الهروب في المجهول.
يجمع هذا الكتاب الكثير من الأغاني الغجرية التي دونت مباشرة عند إلقائها من قبل "مغنٍ" والصفة المميزة لهذه الأغاني هي الإرتجال. وتغنى في جو تلقائي دون أن يفكر المغني أن يحفظها يوماً أو يسجلها بشكلٍ من الأشكال، وهي في الواقع تخدم المغني عند تجواله عبر البلاد في مناسبات مختلفة. كل هذه الأغاني جمعها "هانزيكون فويكت" ونقلها إلى العربية "نامق كامل" جاءت في كتاب (أغاني الغجر).
يضم الكتاب خمسة وخمسون قصيدة غنائية من أشعار الغجر، استهلت بمقدمة عن الشعراء الغجريين عبر العالم مع التعريف بهم وبلغتهم وأشعارهم. نذكر من العناوين: "الفارس وحصانه"، "حين يأتي الصيف"، "سرقة"، "إحتراس"، "الموت"، "ألم"... الخ.
