مع ميلاد كل مأساة نشهد ميلاد حقيقة، فإذا كانت المأساة مأساة (فرد) فإن المرء يكتشف حقيقة من حقائق الحياة. أما حينما تكون المأساة مأساة أمة فإن الذي ينكشف لها هو حقائق التاريخ. وللمأساة في هذه القصة من جانبان، جانب فردي: دارت فصوله على شواطئ (نهر الأردن)، وفي جزء منها على (رمال سيناء). هذا الجانب وقف فيه أبناؤنا وأمهاتنا وإخواتنا أمام تحدي البقاء يدافعون عن حقهم الأعزل في الحياة أمام البرابرة.
وأما مأساة الأمة وهو الجانب الثاني، فيكشف لها حقائق التاريخ وشروط الميلاد والبقاء وقواعد المنطق الصارم. وذلك حينما يضع التاريخ هذه الأمة وجهاً لوجه أمام قدرها في حلبة الصراع الأبدي صراع الأمم. فتاريخ أمة ما، هو دوماً زمان وصيرورة؛ لكن حين تلد المأساة أمة عندئذ يجمد التاريخ ويستحيل إلى واقع صخري إلى مكان إلى أرض إلى وطن، وتتوقف أنفاس الحياة فتشهق الأمة شهقة واحدة هي الشهقة الأولى لميلادها.
