Ce volume fait suite au livre publie, sous le meme titre, par le Pere Henri Jalabert en 1987. Dans ce livre, l'auteur reunissait les notices, dispersees en des bulletins peu accessibles, d'un demi-millier de Jesuites morts depuis un siecle et demi dans les missions du Liban, de Syrie, d' Egypte, d' Armenie et de Constantinople. S'y ajoutait un second demi-millier de Jesuites qui, apres avoir plus ou moins longtemps vecu et travaille avec les premiers, ont ete poursuivre et finir ailleurs qu'au Levant leurs travaux et leurs vies. L' inventaire du Pere Jalabert s'etait arrete en 1986. Le present volume constitue la suite pour les annees 1986-2004.
