على الرغم من كونه يحمل عنواناً "عكس السير" إلا أن مقالات هذا الكتاب تكاد على اختلاف مواضيعها، وزمن نشرها، وزاويته، تكاد تكون كلها في اتجاه سير كاتب يمر في شوارع المجتمع، يقف عند زواياه السياسية الاجتماعية الاقتصادية السياسية الإعلامية وقفات نقدية متأنية، تأخذ بعين الاعتبار سلبيات وإيجابيات تلك المواضيع التي كانت محطاته النقدية عندها. يسوق كل ذلك بأسلوب أدبي يحث القارئ على متابعة وجهة نظر الكاتب. سلباً أو إيجاباً، وبلغة نقدية أحياناً ساخرة وأحياناً أخرى ساحرة، وفي بعض الأحايين جارحة كمبضع الجراح، فإنه آخرالدواء الكيّ.
ما يجمع النصوص المتفرقة في هذا الكتاب يتعدى مجرد صدورها عن مؤلف واحد في فترة زمنية معينة. الجامع بينها هو السعي لتجاوز الحدود بين الأنواع الكتابية: بين السياسة والأدب، بين الاقتصاد والثقافة، بين التأريخ وعلم الدلالات أو الرمزيات وبين الاجتماع والجماليات. فأحياناً كثيرة يقول الأدب عن الأوضاع الاجتماعية أو عن العلاقات السياسية قولاً أبلغ وأعمق وأدق بكثير مما يقوله مبحث اجتماعي أو خطاب سياسي. لا بل إن أسرار حقبة تاريخية أو أزمة اجتماعية، قد تتكشف في الأدب-بما في ذلك في الشعر-ولا تتكشف في أي نتاج من نتاجات العلوم الاجتماعية أو الإنسانية.
لذا لست أتحرّج في أن أثبت في هذه المختارات تعليقات صحافية أسبوعية جنباً إلى جنب مع دراسات اجتماعية، أكاديمية أو شبه أكاديمية، أو سجالات نظرية أو عروض كتب أو محاولات في النقد الأدبي أو الفني. ولا أنا متحرّج، من الناحية المنهجية، في اعتماد هذه المنهجية الجدلية بين تلك الأنواع الكتابية والمقاربات الاختصاصية المتباينة بل إني محرض عليها تحريضاً. فعند التقاطعات تكمن خصوبات القول والمعنى التي لا تخلو أيضاً من المتعة الجمالية.
