ألف المصنف كتابه هذا على كتاب الإمام الغزالي "تهافت الفلاسفة"، حيث يفند ما جاء فيه مثبتاً ما فيه من الحق والصواب، معترضاً على ما كان فيه من مواقع الإشكال والارتياب وذلك دون أدنى تعصب أو جور أو تعسف، مرتباً مقصوده على عشرين مبحثاً مورداً فيه المسائل كما وردت في كتاب التهافت أصلاً وذلك ما استدعاه منه سياق الكلام ونذكر على سبيل المثال بعضاً من مباحث كتاب "الذخيرة": حدوث العالم وقدمه، أبدية العالم، إثبات الصانع للعالم، توحيد الإله جلى وعلا، نفي الكثرة عنه، اتصاف الله بالصفات السلبية، هل يجوز أن يكون له تركب من أجزاء عقلية أولاً، هل له ماهية غير الوجود أم لا، إن الله تعالى ليس بجسم، الكلام في حقيقة العالم، إنه تعالى بغيره من الأشياء، إنه تعالى يعلم ذاته، هل للفلك نفس ناطقة متحركة بالإرادة أم لا، في بيان الغرض الأصلي في حركة الفلك الأعظم، في بيان علم نفوس السماوات بأحوال الكائنات، في بيان أن ترتب الموجودات بعضها على بعض هو لعلاقة عقلية وعلية حقيقية بينها أم لا، في بيان أن النفس هل هي مجردة أم لا، في بيان أن النفس الإنسانية قديمة أو حادثة، وأنها هل هي باقية بعد موت البدن وأجزائه أم لا، في بيان حشر الأجساد ورد الأرواح إلى الأبدان هل هو ممكن وواقع أم لا.
